Application Support Engineer (Commodities)
Key Responsibilities
- Support, maintain, and continuously improve front-, middle-, and back-office commodities technology platforms
- Collaborate as part of a global application support team across Chicago, New York, London, San Francisco, and Hong Kong
- Partner closely with Portfolio Managers, Traders, Analysts, and Developers to resolve production issues and identify enhancement opportunities
- Provide cross-regional support, including monitoring overnight processing across Asia, Europe, and the US
- Work with third-party vendors to troubleshoot issues and deliver strategic system improvements
- Document recurring issues, trade workflows, and operational procedures using Confluence
- Lead deployment, configuration, and user training for new product implementations and enhancements
- Participate in a rotational on-call schedule to provide escalation support during evenings and weekends
Technical & Professional Requirements
- 5+ years of experience within investment banks, asset managers, commodity trading firms, investment advisors, or related software vendors
- Strong understanding of energy and commodity markets, with experience in products such as US/EU Power, Gas, Oil, Coal, Metals, or Emissions
- Hands-on experience supporting commodities trading platforms including Trayport Joule, WebICE, and EEX
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, including the ability to support internally developed systems
- Experience implementing and/or supporting CTRM/ETRM platforms such as ION Endur or CXL
- Knowledge of market data services including Trayport, B-PIPE, and Morningstar
- Familiarity with messaging technologies such as RabbitMQ, Solace, or Kafka
- Solid SQL skills across relational databases, including MS SQL Server
- Proficiency in Python for workflow automation and system integration via REST APIs
- Exposure to Linux environments and applications developed in C++, C#, and Python
- High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
